Acties 2021
Persoonlijke preventie als leefstijl blijft ook dagelijks in 2022 mijn to do.
(Noot 4).
In deze laatste bijdrage staat mijn persoonlijke visie sinds 2010 beschreven = tegelijkertijd mijn plan in 2022
"remain developing your eletronic skills (eSkills) step by step and use them as a strategy: frapper toujours (always hit!)". Mijn bericht aan de nieuwe generatie (NEXT Generation) is: "lifelong learning of new skills can play a great role to improve women's economic rights and independence!"
Reizen

Noot 3 blog "Small steps to feminist Europe"
Noot 4 Arina Angerman haar bijdrage "Herstory Matters!" aan The Annual report IAW 2021, page 74-75
donderdag 3 juni 2021
Small steps to a Feminist Europe will make a difference!!!
This is my (Arina Angerman) last contribution to the electronic IAW Newsletter (June 2021) as a Board Member (BM) of European Women's Lobby (EWL). I want to thank Marion Boeker, Lene Pind, Jocelynne Scutt and Joanna Manganara very much. They supported me after elected BM in Lisbon in October 2014. I have reread my IAW report of 2019 and will give five small steps to celebrate and continue!
1. My 1st GOAL representing IAW in EWL's Board was to share information and spreading knowledge by Twitter in order to strenghten the visibility both of IAW and EWL by posting or sharing at least twice a week (social media mobilization) at this social media platform. I carried out these doable social media actions every week.
2. My 2nd GOAL to write a story about an activity / new knowledge within EWL. I published many, many stories and my most important insights are:
3. In July 2019 new European Parliament with 40% (plus 8%) women voted in favour of the first female President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Both can be seen as important steps and the result of the 50:50 Women for Europe, Europe for women campaign by EWL. In May 2020 EWL membership extends to more than 2000 women's associations in 26 EU Member States, three Candidate countries, one former EU Member State and one European Free Trade Association (incl. UK, Turkey and Iceland). IAW (I, Arina Angerman) was one of 10 European-wide non govermental organizations in the EWL Board (October 2014 - June 2021).
4.Fight against the rise of anti-feminist forces in Europe.
One action against the rise of anti-feminist forces in Europe was sending a strong letter of continued support by European Coalition to End Violence against Women and Girls - supported by more than 3.800 organisations representing millions of voices in 49 countries - to the Council of Europe in support of the Istanbul Convention. IAW is a member of this European Coalition. In the approved EWL Work Programma 2021 "EWL would have organised actions to influence governments to ratify and implement the Istanbul Convention " (page 6).
5. I enjoyed being a representative of IAW in the Board of EWL very, very much! I will miss strategizing, learning and mobilising together for women's rights. In the Charter for EWL Women's Forum June 2019 I like the core value 'Equality between women and men' and the key principle 'Women's Rights are Human Rights'. My years from October 2014 - June 2021 were full of 'politics and friendship' and I hope (new) IAW representatives to EWL: IAW Vice-President Marion Boeker and 'young' feminist Lea Boergeding will have the same experience!

A personal story about #IWD's in the Netherlands
In the Bold & Brilliant invitation sent by Dr. Jocelynne Scutt I was introduced as a speaker. I studied in Groningen (at least 2 hours by train from Amsterdam) and have lived in Amsterdam since 1985. I have represented International Alliance of Women (IAW) in the Board of European Women's Lobby (EWL) since October 2014. I attended several annual meetings of IAW including Reykjavik (2011) and Berlin (2018).
I have been working as an expert women in decision-making since 1990. As a retired professional I still publish blogs (Note 1) and tweets about women in politics in order to support both IAW @womenalliance and EWL @EuropeanWomen. I still am an entrepreneur Social Media 4 Boomers.
As a student I became a conscious feminist in 1979 partly as a result of talking to members of my herstory group 'the fifties' about abortion and the right to decide as a woman to have one. She Decides movement or being a boss in your own belly still is an important subject for us feminists of all walks of life.
As a student in social and political history in Groningen I went to an event on March 8 where prostitutes from Amsterdam were talking about their sex work. This strategy of talking with is very, very important and is from where we - as feminists - have come!
As a conscious feminist in 1996 I went to the city hall of Amstelveen as part of my job seeking challinge to attend a lecture by Marianne van den Boomen about a new opportunity: Internet! Her book subtitles Internet ABC for women. I reread her lecture in 2010 and connected it to the Aletta Jacobs (Note 2) speech at 8.3 by the first woman of the Netherlands who became an EU Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, in 2004.
As a woman in politics in 2019 I was a candidate at place 15 in the Elections for the European Parliament (Note 3).
Since the summer of 2020 I have supported the campaign 'Omdat ik het verdien' / 'Because I deserve it' (for equal pay) at Instagram by giving likes and comments. This campaign is inspired by the example of Iceland. In 2021 I liked on Insta at Happy International Women's Day "I'll tell you what I want, what I really want ...
Concluding from the Netherlands to all of us in 2021 I shared Anouk You Tube It's a New Day. This video is dedicated to the ones leading the way like Emma Gonzalez (USA), Frida Kahlo (Mexico) and Jacinda Ardern (New Zealand) (Note 4). Quote "A life without purpose is no life at all".
My personal vision since 2010 is: remain developing your electronic skills (eSkills): 1st Internet, 2nd social media and 3rd since corona pandemie how to Zoom. In order to reach a gender equal society it is important to remain healthy and develop electronic skills (eSkills) step by step and use them as a strategy: frapper toujours (always hit!)

Note 2 Aletta Jacobs 1854-1929 is the first woman to attain a PhD in the Netherlands on 8th March 1879. For a quarter of a century she was at the head of the Dutch Women's Suffrage Association and is also a BIG inspiration in the herstory of IAW!

1. https://angermaneuropa.blogspot.com/2020/01/persoonlijke-preventie-als-leefstijl
2. https://angermaneuropa.blogspot.com/2020/03/gendergelijkheid-sdg5-iwd2020.
3. https://angermaneuropa.blogspot.com/2019/05/playlist-arina-angerman-pvda-nr-15">

I write this blog in Dutch. Waarom? Drie redenen:
(Noot 2)

* Vrijheid = Baas in eigen buik.
* Rechtvaardigheid = Minder belastingontwijking. (inspiratie TaxTour Paul Tang) Omdat fiscale rechtvaardigheid telt voor iedereen.
* Duurzaamheid = Minder plastic. (inspiratie ItsTime Frans Timmermans) Omdat klimaatverandering bij jezelf begint.

Connecting international herstories: Jewish Dutch #Feminist Rosa Manus (1881-1942)
Thanks a.o. to editors Myriam Everard and Francisca de Haan, Atria (Institute on Gender Equality and Women's History) and publisher Brill we can read this amazing collective biography of Essays, Pictures and Documents about Rosa Manus (1881-1942) The International Life and Legacy of a Jewish Dutch Feminist Leiden 2017. (Comment 1)
In this blog I focus on Rosa Manus as board member of International Alliance of Women. Rosa Manus was murdered by the Nazis in 1942 and part of her archive returned from Moscow to Amsterdam in 2003. (Comment 2)
The editors are famous experts of gender history and feminists! Myriam Everard Ph.D (1994) is an independent scholar lately focusing on first wave feminism. Francisca de Haan Ph.D (1992) is Professor of Gender Studies and History at the Central European University. She has published widely on the history of the international women's movement. (Comment 3)
International Alliance of Women (IAW)
You can read in this 'collective biography' about Rosa Manus many different herstories! I read a.o. Introduction: Recovering the Legacy by Francisca de Haan and two inspiring Essays , the Bonds of High-Financial Womanhood by Mineke Bosch and Rosa Manus in Cairo 1935 & Copenhagen 1939 by Margot Badran. (Comment 4)
In the Index there are many, many pages about IAW and their branches a.o. in Brasil, Egypt and Germany and their congresses a.o. in Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin.
Rosa Manus in the 30's
Together with the president of the Egyptian Feminist Union Huda Sha'rawi Rosa Manus became member of the board of IAW in 1926. "Interactions between Manus and the Egyptians in Cairo and Copenhagen within the context of the IAW brought to the fore two dimensions of international feminism in the inter-war period ... the warm and collaborative ... and the tense and conflicted ... when centrifugal forces and realities of politics denied, both colonial and nationalist [viewpoints]." (page 185)
Rosa Manus and Huda Sha'rawi both were born into wealth of a Jewish (1881) and a Muslim (1879) family and received an excellent education. Both were members of the Alliance Committee for Peace and the League of Nations. (page 188) ...
Margot Badran: "The IAW western leadership could not, or would not, recognize its colonial cast or what later [was] identified as ´imperial feminism´..." (page 200) "The IAW president during the interwar years, Corbett Ashby, would admit to me (Margot Badran) in 1971 that the notion that women would be better at keeping the peace (natural peace makers) was their largest illusion. " (page 201) Rosa Manus in a letter to Carrie Chapman Catt, 31 July 1939, "... the Jewish question was not the matter but only the Palestine-Jewish question." (page 204)
Pictures in Part 2
with beautiful words by Myriam Everard and analysing the pictures in detail.
** On page 302 you can see IAW's first president Carrie Chapman Catt and Rosa Manus in 1909 at the London Congress of IWSA (International Woman Suffrage Alliance). (Comment 5)
** On page 320 is a beautiful Studio Portrait of 'grande dame' Rosa Manus 1928 by Jacob Merkelbach in Amsterdam.
** On page 326 Rosa Manus in the 'pose of a business-woman communicating with the world over the phone' by Erna Lendvai-Dircksen in Berlin 1929 (25th Jubilee's Congress of the Alliance).
** On page 339 Press photo of the IAW Board meeting at the IAV offices in Amsterdam 1936 with handwritten names by Rosa Manus.
Concluding
I want to conclude this blog with a storytelling & a clearifying quote by Francisca de Haan:
"Rosa Manus's feminist career started at the 1908 Congress of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance (IWSA) in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, where she worked as a 'page' and was immediately spotted for her talents and dedication. For three decades, she took up important positions in national and international groups concerned with women's suffrage and emancipation and world peace." (page 3) ...
"She (Rosa Manus, Arina Angerman) was arrested as a political opponent of the Nazis and detained in political prisons, but, in the end, murdered as a Jew. Both dimensions deserve to be recognized." (page 21).

Empowering women in the digital age with more #eskills in EU - lifelong learning
Lifelong
learning of new eSkills is urgent in order to improve women's economic rights
and independence. Financial independence for women is very important because
one out of three women is a victim of sexual and/or physical violence in the
EU!
On 16 March 2016 Arina Angerman attended the Conference eSkills for Jobs 2016 in The Hague (Photo). Marietje Schaake,
Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and eSkills for Jobs Ambassador, told
us “We have to have a leadership that knows why
eSkills are important.” Her key
recommendation: “Invest in the eSkills of politicians and policy makers”.
- “the study by European Parliament Policy Department C entitled ‘Study on Empowering women on the Internet’, published in 2015,
21. Calls
on the Commission and the Member States to support lifelong learning as well as
training and schemes which help prepare for a better adaptation or potential
change of career path in accordance with the growing demand for e-skills in
many different sectors, paying particular attention to women aged 55 and over,
in order to safeguard them from exclusion from the labour market;’’

EP resolution on gender
equality and empowering women in the digital age
On 28 April 2016 the European Parliament (EP) adopted a very important resolution on gender
equality and empowering women in the digital age. The resolution of 19 pages was developed by MEP and Rapporteur Terry Reintke with help of many others. Arina selected three points of context and some recommendations to inform you:
- “the study by European Parliament Policy Department C entitled ‘Study on Empowering women on the Internet’, published in 2015,
- the Council of
Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and
domestic violence (Istanbul Convention),
- the report of
the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and the opinion of the
Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.
C. whereas only 9 % of
developers in Europe are women, only 19 % of bosses in the ICT and
communications sectors are female (compared with 45 % in other service
sectors) and women represent just 19 % of entrepreneurs (compared with
54 % in other service sectors);
H. whereas improving
digital skills and IT literacy presents a unique opportunity for increasing the
inclusion in the labour market of women and girls, but also of people with
special needs, such as people with disabilities; whereas increasing the number
of women in the ICT sector, which is one of the highest paying sectors, could
contribute to their financial empowerment and independence, resulting in the
reduction of the total gender pay gap;
N. whereas women
aged 55 and over are at a particular risk of unemployment and labour market
inactivity, with the average EU employment rate for women aged 55-64 being only
42 %, compared with 58 % for men; whereas a low level of IT literacy
and e-skills further amplifies this risk; whereas improving and investing in
digital competences of women aged 55 and over would boost their employment
opportunities and offer a level of protection against exclusion from the labour
market;
3. Calls on the
Commission to exploit and better target the Digital Agenda and the Digital
Single Market Strategy with a view to addressing the severe gender gap within
the ICT sector and fostering the full integration of women into the sector,
particularly in relation to technical and telecommunication professions, to
foster education and training of women and girls in ICT and other STEM
subjects, to increase the visibility of women in the digital arena, to enhance
gender equality and participation of women through better access to funding, to
systematically implement gender impact assessments and gender budgeting in its
work on the Digital Agenda and the Digital Single Market Strategy so that the
fundamental European principle of equality between women and men can be duly
incorporated and to support civil society and women’s organisations in making
an inclusive internet a reality;
5. Urges
the Commission to include in the upcoming Strategy for equality between women
and men 2016-2020 specific actions to support the integration and participation
of women in the information society and to strongly promote women’s networks
online as they are the manifestation of a self-organised, bottom-up approach to
female empowerment and should receive all the support necessary for them to
become long-term;
Conclusion
In the summer of 2015 Arina Angerman wrote ‘’Equal education
of women and girls’’ in the IAW Newsletter August 2015 about results of the GenderEquality Index research by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE). Most
(extended board) members of IAW and their member associations are digital
migrants. My conclusion still is a valid opinion: lifelong learning of new
eSkills by women or feminists of all generations has to improve in order to
remain agents of change / policy-makers!!!

Step it Up for Gender Equality in EU #EU2016NL

”
Combating violence against women in EU
A. prevention
A. prevention
Violence against
women (VAW) is the most widespread violation of women’s human rights: one out
of three women is a victim of sexual and/or physical violence in the EU. VAW is
both a cause and a consequence of gender equality. The most unsafe place for
women and girls is at home. Small arms like knives (which are classified as
small arms), pistols and rifles are easy to buy and conceal. They give a sense
of power to a partner, ex-partner, family member or acquaintance and are great
threats to the safety of women and girls. Preventive measure saves states and
civil society a great deal of money! Note 1
B. ratify Istanbul Convention
The European
Commission has proposed for the EU to ratify the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention
to fight violence against women. Link to press-release http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-16-549_en.htm The Istanbul Convention is the most comprehensive international treaty on combatting violence against women. ‘’At 8 march 2016 12 EU Member
States (Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Poland,
Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) had already ratified the Convention. ‘’ Note
2
Nice to know too the European Commission wants to dedicate the year 2017 to ending violence against women. Note 3 Banning of small arms must be part of this European Year on Combating Violence Against Women too!

Equal representation of women in (Online) Media? #Beijing20
One of the strategic objectives of the Beijing Platform for Action '95 is ‘Increase the participation and access of
women to expression and decision-making in and through the media and the new
technologies of communication.’ In 2015 the (inter)national community is celebrating the 20th anniversary of this fundamental human rights instrument for women and girls adopted in 1995.
Did you know that only 16% of photos in European newspaper show women over 45 years of age (according to the project “You can’t be what you can’t see”)? In the EU, women account for only 24% of people that we hear and read about in the news. Only 4% of the news coverage is against stereotypical portrayel. Note 1 In May 2015, European Women's Lobby (EWL) demands ‘Mirror, mirror on the wall …a fair and equal representation of women in the media in Europe’.

& Twitter
During the
past decade, advances in information technology have facilitated a global
communications network that transcends national boundaries. One of the
challenges is that women who write on the Internet and participate in social
media, on blogs and other online forums, meet increasing hostility and
harassment. This is a way to silence women’s voices in the public sphere.
At my public
sphere Twitter account - @ArinaNoel - I retweeted an infographic of women in
the media by UN Women. Note 2 There are around 2 Billion active social media
accounts. Roughly half of social media users are women. Feminist hashtags - # -
that have added to global conversations on gender inequality are #Beijing20
#HeForShe and #EverydaySexism The #
symbol, called hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet.

Big Plans ... Small Steps to goal 50/50 F/M Thank you MamaCash and EWL! |
One of the strategic objectives of the Beijing Platform for Action ’95 is ‘Promote women’s economic rights and independence …’ Women and the economy is one of the interdependent 12 critical areas of concern in this Platform for Action.
After 20 years the gender pay gap remains a major issue within the EU as women workers on average earn 16% less than men. A worrying development is the widening gender pension pay gap which stand at 39% within the EU.
Austerity measures have a huge effect on women, both as workers in the public sector and users of public services. Moreover, women bear a disproportionate share of tax burdens, as they use larger portions of their income on food and basis goods for the household. One of the

After 20 years the gender pay gap remains a major issue within the EU as women workers on average earn 16% less than men. A worrying development is the widening gender pension pay gap which stand at 39% within the EU. The gender pension gap shows that gender inequalities accumulate throughout women’s lives and that a life-cycle approach to women’s economic independence is urgently needed.

The gender pension gap shows that gender inequalities accumulate throughout women’s lives and that a life-cycle approach to women’s economic independence is urgently needed.
Women’s
economic independence is the foundation of all rights. EWL’s key demands to the
European Union and the Member States are a.o.
- Guarantee
the individualization of social security and taxation rights in order to break
women’s dependency on their partners and/or the State;
- Close the
gender pay gap by 2020 and set targets to close the pension gap;
- Use
Gender Budgeting as a standard methodology of all public budget processes;
Austerity measures
Austerity measures have a huge effect on women, both as workers in the public sector and users of public services. Moreover, women bear a disproportionate share of tax burdens, as they use larger portions of their income on food and basis goods for the household. Social entrepreneurship can be a promising avenue through which women can empower themselves and others.
Joanna Manganara, Board Member since 2004 and President since 2013 of International Alliance of Women, is telling the story of Greece in an interview. Quote "It is also important ... to see women ... as actors of change in political decision-making."
